Zimbabwe remains safe

-

EDITOR — The Australian cricket team, which is scheduled to visit Zimbabwe soon, should not worry about its safety because the country is a safe destination.

The Bulawayo bomb blast incident was an isolated incident that should not be used spoil the integrity of our security systems. The matter is still under investigation to bring the suspects to justice.

The country has an excellent record of protecting cricketers, a case in point, being the recent triangular series that went on without any security scare.

Though there are some disgruntled elements bent on destabilising the prevailing peaceful environment for their own nefarious agendas, Zimbabwe remains resolute to maintenance of peace as propagated by President Mnangagwa.

The security of Pakistan and Australian cricketers is guaranteed and should not read much in the Bulawayo incident, as it remains an isolated incident and not reflective of the situation in the country.

Australia should take a leaf from the Pakistan team which is in the country despite the bomb scare. Sporting should not be mixed with politics; the bomb scare will not happen as security has been tightened at all public gatherings.

History should not repeat itself when twice the Aussie cancelled two tours to Zimbabwe in 2007 and 2017. The International Cricket Council is free to send a delegation to assess the security situation in the country. Zimbabwe is safe and peaceful.
