Businessman caught pants down

- Weekender Correspondent

A CHIPINGE businessman was heavily beaten by villagers recently after he was caught pants down with a local welder’s wife.

Panganai Gede Mhlanga (40) spent the whole night under citizen arrest after he was found having quality time with another man’s wife.

The incident happened at Mwazooneyi Village under Chief Musikavanhu.

He was heavily beaten and had buckets of cold water poured on him the whole night in the ensuing cold weather.

Circumstances to the case were that the welder, Lucky Masawi set up a trap after he received rumours that his wife was seeing the entrepreneur each time he went away to do work.

A witness who refused to be named told The Weekender that on the day in question, Masawi told his wife, Winmore Mdhaya Mhlanga (40), that he was going to Chimanimani.

He however made a u-turn and returned home at night.

“He knocked on the door but his wife answered back after a long time. He got suspicious, alerted his neighbours and told them that all was not well. They rushed to the scene,” said the witness.

When his wife later opened the door the mob rushed into the house to search for the intruder.

They found the businessman in the other room. He pleaded with the crowd that he was innocent but everything was exposed after the mob recovered his shoes and cell phone in Masawi’s bedroom.

After getting hold of the cell phone the mob went straight to text messages and found a message which read ‘come and we will have two or three rounds’. The message was sent from Masawi’s wife’s number.

The crowd went wild and began to assault him.

It was not clear at the time of going to print whether the case had been reported to the police or the traditional court.
