Visual artist’s light shines brighter
VISUAL artist and graphic designer, Andrew Zivengwa’s stock continues to rise after his alluring and captivating artworks earned him two top accolades at the just-ended Manicaland Agricultural Show held at Mutare Showgrounds.
The 22-year-old artist, who is also a photographer, was outstanding in pencil/charcoal drawing in the young adult art section and was the runner up in the painting mixed media category.
In the pencil or charcoal category, he said the drawing resembles a saint, St Theresa, the little flower who was a sister in the Camelite convent.
“I was inspired by the young face and how she presents herself as older than she looks,” he added.
“In the painting mixed media, I am inspired by an African woman with dreadlocks,” he said.
“He specialises in painting, drawing and is studying commercial design at Bulawayo Polytechnic.
“I am humbled. Winning this top accolade is a motivation and I will keep doing better. It was a tough competition but I managed to win. I am glad that I am getting better with time.
“I would like to thank, among others, Anne Guild, for nurturing and allowing me to showcase my talent since 2015.
“I kept on winning and she has always been there for me, even during trying times,” he said.
He urged aspiring and young artists to work hard and stay focused.
“I will continue to work hard and inspire others. I urge people to follow their dreams and pray fervently to achieve them. God will always open ways for people who are dedicated and focused,” he added.
