ONE person was electrocuted and three others are battling for life at Mutare Provincial Hospital following an electricity cables mishap that occurred in Hobhouse (Mutare) yesterday.

The deceased, whose name could not be established at the time of going to print, was one of the contract employees working in the area.

Zesa Holdings spokesperson, Mr Fullard Gwasira confirmed the tragedy.

“I can confirm that we have been informed that of a fatality on one of our lines. One of our contractors, who was working in the area was involved in a fatal accident that occurred along that line. We are with the affected families during this difficult time,” he said.

When The Manica Post news crew visited the scene at 3060 Hobhouse 3, after the incidents, residents were still in a state of shock.

“We are shocked. They were about eight, pulling a treated electricity pole before it disturbed the live mainline.

“There was a spark and people got seriously injured. It was a sorry sight and we were all afraid. Their eyes were rolling while others were grumbling with pain. One of our neighbours called an ambulance, but it came late since some others had been taken to St Joseph’s Hospital already,” said one Mrs Banda.

Police said they were yet to get finer details of the incident.

“We have heard about the case but we are yet to get finer details,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.
