First Lady expected to spearhead Mutare clean-up

FIRST Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa (pictured right) is today (Friday) expected to visit Mutare to spearhead the national clean-up campaign.

The First Lady, who is the health ambassador and has been at the forefront of fighting cholera and typhoid, will visit , Chikanga Spar where a cleanup will be conducted before visiting Chengetayi Special School where she will do tree planting and presentati­on of gifts to the children.

The national clean-up is held on the first Friday of each month for two hours.

At national level, the clean-up campaign will be led by President Mnangagwa. The national environmen­tal cleaning across the country will be carried out between 8am and 10am under the theme: “Zero tolerance to litter: my environmen­t, my pride”.

The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Dr Ellen Gwaradzimb­a will oversee the clean-up at provincial level and the District Administra­tors will do the same in their respective districts.

The thrust of the clean-up campaign is to address waste management challenges in communitie­s.

President Mnangagwa declared the first Friday of each month, the National Environmen­t Cleaning Day, as his Government moves to ensure the country has sustainabl­e environmen­t management and waste disposal systems.

The national clean-up campaign was launched in Harare in December 2018.
