All set for Zimpapers Cancer Power walk

- Fungayi Munyoro Post Correspondent

ALL is set for the Zimpapers Cancer Power walk in Mutare at the Manicaland Motoring Club on Saturday next week.

The awareness campaign is part of Zimpapers’ corporate social responsibility programme in partnership with Island Hospice. It will also concurrently take place in Harare, Bulawayo and Kariba with the aim of educating the public on cancer.

In addition, it is part of the organisation’s contribution to the health and well-being of the society which it operates in.

In an interview, Zimpapers group public relations and corporate affairs manager, Ms Beatrice Tonhodzayi, said preparations for the event were at an advanced stage.

“We are so excited and this is the time of the year again where we raise cancer awareness as Zimpapers. This year we are expecting a bigger and better event and we have rolled in Kariba. In 2016-17, we used to do the power walk in Harare only but we realised that it is a global concern and not a Harare issue only. We then decided to spread it to Bulawayo and Mutare. It is our way to give back and invest in our communities,” she said.

Ms Tonhodzayi encouraged the business community to join in and partner Zimpapers in the initiative.

“We encourage the business community to partner with us. The more we are, the better we become. All proceeds of the day will be handed to Island Hospice. I encourage people to come in their numbers so that we make it a family day. Cancer is real and a lot of people are dying. There will be Blood Pressure and diabetes checks on the day. We will be also looking forward to a Zumba dance,” she said.

The event will be held under the theme: “I am and I will”.

Last year’s event was a huge success with more than 500 Mutare residents joining in the 5km Cancer Power walk.

People willing to be part of the event will pay a registration fee of $60 local currency at the Manica Post offices.
