Zanu PF rolls out Covid-19 campaigns

THE Zanu PF Manicaland provincial executive has joined in the fight against the spread of Covid-19 by rolling out awareness campaigns across the province.

The party convened a special provincial executive committee meeting in Mutare on Sunday, where speakers, among them Politburo member Cde Patrick Chinamasa and Acting Provincial Medical Director Dr Munyaradzi Mukuzunga, took time to sensitise leaders on the prevention of coronavirus.

President Mnangagwa has declared Covid-19 a national disaster.

“We convened a special provincial executive committee meeting on Sunday on the instruction of the Politburo to raise awareness on Covid-19. The country has now recorded its first death.

“Our thrust was to create awareness on the viral disease, especially at the grassroots level. We were also taken through the essential habits people should adopt to reduce risks of contracting the disease. The trained leaders were tasked to disseminate the acquired knowledge to their respective areas,” said Zanu PF provincial secretary for administration Cde Kenneth Saruchera.

He said the meeting also recommended the total lockdown of crowded ares to minimise transmission of the virus.

“Although the country is still recording isolated cases of Covid-19, we came up with resolutions, among them the total lockdown of all possible hotspots. In such areas, there should be total lockdown, with and all movements of people stopped.

“During our meetings, we are maintaining a distance of at least a metre between two people, with less than 50 people in attendance. We should all lead by example in adhering to all the safety requirements,” said Cde Saruchera.

The ruling party also expressed concern over the lethargy at most border posts, where most truck drivers in transit from countries that have recorded Covid-19 cases spend considerable time waiting to be cleared.

On Monday, President Mnangagwa closed the country’s borders for all non-essential travel for both in-bound and out-bound traffic. “Truckers need to be monitored more closely as they are among the high risk population that can spread the virus across nations.

“The meeting also called for the establishment of more screening and testing facilities at all points of entry, and identified possible isolation centres,” said Cde Saruchera.
