A businessman was recently

HAUNA dragged to Mutare Civil Court for failing to provide for his 10-year-old son.

Appearing before Mutare magistrate Ms Nyasha Kuture, Christina Mazuru described the businessman as a ladies’ man who neglects his children.

She told the court that Timothy Chiriseri spends his money on women, before impregnating and dumping them.

Mazuru claimed that Chiriseri is a proud owner of various business entities at Hauna Growth Point, including a motor spares shop, a garage, a hardware shop and a clothing boutique.

“He denies ownership of these businesses but everyone at Hauna knows he owns them.

“Your Worship, I know that he has six other children and that will be one of his excuses for neglecting his child. However, that should not be a reason for him to neglect our son, I know he can afford to provide for him,” she said.

Mazuru said while Chiriseri has been availing $20 occasionally for the upkeep of the child, she needs $1 200 every month to cater for the boy’s needs.

“He gets around $10 000 every month. He has the means and is very financially stable as evidenced by his booming business,” argued Mazuru.

However in his defence, Chiriseri told the court that he has six other children and denied ownership of the said businesses.

He said he earns $1 500 every month from selling his farm produce.

“I am not a businessman. I earn around $1 500 a month from my dealings. I am self-employed and I am having a hard time looking after all my seven children. Your Worship, $1 200 is too much for me because I will be left with only $300 to look after the other six children, my wife and myself,” he said.

The matter was adjourned to a later date to allow both parties to bring in their witnesses.
