Rusape drug peddlers nabbed

DETECTIVES from the drugs and narcotics department in Mutare last week swooped on two Rusape shop attendants who were allegedly dealing in dangerous drugs and unregister­ed medicines and recovered 30kg of mbanje and an assortment of medicines.

The two suspects, Kenneth Chiwara (21) and Tinotenda Mapira (20) of Rukweza Village under Chief Makoni were employed as shopkeeper­s at Denzva Business Centre and are now facing unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs and possession of unregister­ed medicines charges.

The duo which is represente­d by Mr Munyaradzi Manyengava­na of Chiwanza and Partners was not asked to plead when it appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Rufaro Mangwiro who was expected to rule on their bail applicatio­n yesterday ( Wednesday).

Marlon Makamba, said detectives received a tip- off that the two were dealing in dangerous drugs and raided them.

“On December 18, detectives from CID Mutare drugs and narcotics were on patrol in Rukweza when they received informatio­n that the accused persons were dealing in dangerous drugs at their workplace.

“Detectives reacted to the informatio­n and went to Denzva Business Centre. They first monitored the accused persons’ activities. After they were sure that the accused persons were dealing in dangerous drugs they went to the shop. They positively identified themselves and searched the shop. They first recovered one twist of mbanje which was in the cash box. Further searches in the storeroom lead to the recovery of 2x 90kgs sacks containing 14 plastic bags of loose mbanje and 338 twist of the same drug which were in a plastic dish. The recovered mbanje weighed 29,4kgs,” said Mr Makamba.

The detectives also recovered 38x15g epidem cream, 45x3mls Tsunami, 23x15g betasol cream, 35x20x200m­g ibuprofen tablets, 14x4 boxes sildenafil tablets, 16x40 appetito tablets which were concealed under the shop counter.
