Nation mourns SB Moyo

THE death of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant General Sibusiso Busi Moyo (Rtd), on Wednesday morning from Covid-19 complications came as a great shock, President Mnangagwa said.

President Mnangagwa said Lt Gen Moyo (59) played an important role in the execution of Zimbabwe’s engagement and re-engagement policy of embracing the rest of the world and repairing relations with countries that had taken a position against Zimbabwe.

Lt Gen Moyo abandoned his high school studies to join the liberation struggle and distinguished himself as a courageous freedom fighter who helped liberate the country from colonialism.

President Mnangagwa said Lt Gen Moyo persistently deployed patient and dignified diplomacy, even against difficult and often hostile interlocutors. Through that patience and perseverance, Zimbabwe had expanded friendships, and registered significant diplomatic gains and victories across the globe. — The Herald.

55 000t fertiliser on the way

UP to 55 000 tonnes of top dressing fertiliser have been imported, while resources have also been set aside to ensure accelerated imports of fertiliser to avert local shortages and ensure summer crops are not affected by nitrogen deficiency.

The fertiliser has started arriving and some Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots have started receiving the imported fertiliser and distributing.

By Friday last week, between 35 and 40 trucks passed through Beitbridge, each carrying about 34 tonnes of top dressing fertiliser.

Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Dr Anxious Masuka on Tuesday said they had put in place mechanisms to ensure trucks bringing in the fertiliser were not delayed.

Farmers will get the top dressing fertilisers in two batches. — The Herald.

Ignore vaccine conspiracy theories

THE public has been urged to ignore Covid19 conspiracy theories alleging that vaccines against the deadly pandemic were not safe and meant to harm them.

The Government said it was taking all precautionary measures before it rolls out Covid-19 vaccines.

Some religious leaders and opinion leaders have caused a public outcry after making unfounded claims that Covid-19 vaccines under development are designed to compromise people’s health.

Some renowned church leaders are discouraging their members from taking the vaccines.

Zimbabwe is in the process of procuring Covid19 vaccines which Government says will be taken by volunteers after being certified safe.

National Covid-19 task-force coordinator Dr Agnes Mahomva said Government was putting in place all the necessary safety measures before rolling out Covid-19 treatment.
