Mazarura unveils new album

- Liberty Dube

RISING Afro-fusion musician, Ranson Madzamba, popularly known as Mazarura, whose mbira-strumming prowess and lyrical ingenuity continue to capture the hearts of many, curtains up the year in style with the release of a six-track album, “Wandisiya Pamhene”.

The album will be released on Monday. The much-awaited album which saw one of the tracks contained on the new project, “Africa”, being released six months ago, will be accompanied with two videos.

Unpacking the album to Weekender Entertainment this week, Mazarura said the project is a mixed bag that carries various social themes that affects people’s day-to-day lives. These include love, orphanhood, parenthood, gender based violence, peace, betrayal and heartbreak.

Songs on the album are “Wandisiya Pamhene”, “Handichada”, “Dai Ndiri Shiri”, “Africa”, “Wakandikoshera” and “Zvabvepi” and were recorded and produced by Maselo.

“Wandisiya Pamhene” is a pure love song where someone is paying tribute to a lover and bidding him or her farewell. It is a painful decision to make for one partner as the other half is no longer interested in the relationship that was so promising at first. The title implies that one would have been left in the cold,” he said. “Handichada”, a potential hit, was presented in a classic jiti genre.

“The song tackles gender based violence issues and it encourages partners to shun violence and walk away from abusive relationships. Although it encourages couples in relationships and marriages to find lasting solutions to their differences, it urges people to live a life happily ever after than to stay in an abusive union which may have disastrous consequences.

“Dai Ndiri Shiri” is a song from a grown-up orphan who wishes if he could have another chance to speak to his late parents and share stories as well as discuss life’s ups and downs in a parent and kid set-up, while “Zvabvepi” is a touching family song. It questions the family elders why not everyone is enjoying life.
