‘My boyfriend fathered our child’

A DIAMOND dealer who impregnated a Hotsprings businessman’s wife has been ordered to pay for his sins with four cattle.

On top of that, Christopher Matare of Zimunya will pay two goats to Chief Mutambara for defiling his area.

The diamond dealer who has currently fallen on hard times and is staying with his elderly mother in the rural areas had to be tracked down after George Chagwadama’s wife, Ruth Chagwadama, confessed that Matare is the father of her child.

The child in question is now in Grade Three and all along George thought he had sired the child.

“I had a minor misunderstanding with my wife. I never thought that it would end up with me approaching her father and demanding some explanations. During the course of our dispute we exchanged words and my wife told me the child that I believed was mine belonged to someone else,” said George.

He said at first he thought she was doing that out of spite, but she insisted.

George later confronted his in-laws and told them what his wife had revealed to him before demanding to know the real father of the child.

“She told everyone who was present that the child belonged to Matare. I only knew Matare as a flamboyant diamond dealer who would come to Hotsprings to flaunt his wealth after buying and selling diamonds in Chiadzwa.

“My wife admitted dating Matare. I run a grinding mill at Hotsprings and each time I went out, she would bring him home and they would enjoy quality time together,” he said.

Together with his in-laws, George tracked down Matare and the latter admitted fathering the child.

“I had an affair with his wife and we have a child together.

“I wanted to tell him so that I could take care of my child, but she refused. I knew that they would look for me one day. After all the child resembles me,” said Matare when he appeared before Chief Mutambara.

ln delivering his ruling, Chief Mutambara castigated Matare for luring a married woman into having an extra-marital affair.

George has since forgiven his wife and she has moved back home with the child in question.
