A of 612 candidates who sat for the 2021 Zimsec Ordinary Level examinations in different schools across Manicaland scored five As or better, according to the results released recently.

Makoni District’s St Faith’s High School maintained its dominance after 108 of its candidates managed to score five As or better, while St David’s Bonda Girls’ High School came second with 94 candidates.

Nyazura High, also from Makoni District had 60 candidates, while another school from the same district, Kriste Mambo, came fourth with 57 candidates.

Fifth placed was Nyanga (Marist) High School which had 52 candidates.

St Augustine’s High School of Mutasa District weighed in on sixth position with 34 candidates, while Mutare’s St Dominic’s is on seventh position with 32 candidates.

Mavhudzi High of Makoni District is on eight position with 20 candidates, while Mutare District’s Marange High is on ninth position with 16 candidates.

Emmanuel High of Nyanga completes the top 10 with 15 candidates.

Mutare’s leading private college, First Class Academy, also proved to be a force to reckon with after it had 15 candidates with five As and better.

Acting Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Mr Richard Gabaza said they are still analysing the results.

“We will issue a comprehensive comment after getting the true picture of the candidates’ performances. At the moment we are still going through the details,” said Mr Gabaza. A cursory analysis of the qualitative results list shows that boarding schools generally performed better than their day counterparts as St Dominic’s is the only day school in the top 10.

St Dominic’s, together with Mutare Girls’ High, which had eight of its candidates attaining five As or better, are the only two day schools that are among the top 15 schools.

On the lower part of the qualitative results list, Gaza High of Chipinge District had only one candidate who attained five As or better and the same goes for Buhera’s Vhiriri High, Mutare’s Dangamvura High, as well as Mutasa District’s Pafiwa and Gatsi High Schools.

Chimanimani High, Chipinge District’s quartet of Chibuwe, Takwirira, Rimbi and Chikore High Schools; as well as Sakubva High 1 of Mutare District and Nyajezi High of Nyanga District each had only two candidates scoring 5 As or better.
