Dagga peddler trapped

A SAKUBVA drug peddler who was selling dagga like tomatoes was apprehende­d on Monday in the sprawling suburb after he tried to sell his merchandis­e to law enforcemen­t agents who pretended to be serious buyers.

Kudakwashe Mlambo (39) of Chisamba section of Sakubva is facing unlawful possession of dagga charges as defined in Section 157 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codificati­on and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

The seized dagga weighed approximat­ely 3kgs with an estimated street value of $37 500.

Criminal Investigat­ions Department (CID) Mutare District Community Relations Liaison Officer, Detective Sergeant Shanu Shake said on Monday, detectives received informatio­n that Mlambo was in possession of dagga at Sakubva Bus Terminus.

“We received informatio­n that the accused person was in possession of dagga at Sakubva Bus Terminus. Acting on the informatio­n, detectives proceeded to the terminus and pretended to be buyers.

“They lured the accused person and he came with three black plastic bags containing dagga, thereby leading to his arrest,” said Detective Sergeant Shake.

Detective Sergeant Shake said a search was conducted at his house, leading to the recovery of two black plastic bags hidden in the kitchen unit.

“He was interviewe­d and led the detectives to his place of residence in Chisamba Section of Sakubva. A search was conducted in the house and the dagga was recovered. Accused person was subsequent­ly arrested,” said Detective Sergeant Shake.

The accused implicated Shadreck Chirodza as the supplier.

A manhunt has since been launched for Chirodza.
