NYANGA continues to scale new heights as an international tourism destination of repute, with Botswana President, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi visiting the district tomorrow (Saturday).

President Masisi will become the first foreign Head of State to visit the picturesque Eastern Highlands since the turn of the new millennium.

The visiting Botswana President’s itinerary includes officially opening the 112th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show in Harare today (Friday), before he proceeds to Nyanga.

President Masisi has also held bilateral talks with his Zimbabwe counterpart, President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Zimbabwe and Botswana enjoy excellent relations that were recently elevated to a Bi-National Commission that is co-chaired by the two Presidents.

Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Honourable Mangaliso Ndlovu confirmed the visit in a telephone interview yesterday (Thursday).

“Yes, I am aware of the visit, but I do not have much details as I am away on leave. You can get in touch with my office for further details,” said Minister Ndlovu.

His deputy, Honourable Barbra Rwodzi, said: “We are currently working on the itinerary of President Masisi’s visit.”

President Masisi’s visit to Nyanga is an endorsement of the Eastern Highlands as a must visit area in Zimbabwe, in addition to the Victoria Falls and Great Zimbabwe, among many others.

Nyanga houses Nyanga Mountain, which is the highest mountain in Zimbabwe; the second highest waterfalls in Africa, Mutarazi Falls; the World’s View, Ziva Monuments, Rhodes Museum, Nyanga National Park and Nyangombe Falls, among other tourist attractions.

The star attraction of the Eastern Highlands tourism package is the Mutarazi Falls Skywalk.

The Skywalk consists of two bridges — the first one is 30m high and takes you over the lip of the Mutarazi Falls, while the other one is 90m high.

The two suspension bridges are designed to look like vines above the falls, allowing for a full panoramic view of the Mutarazi Falls and its surroundings.

The Mutarazi Falls are the highest waterfall in Zimbabwe.

At 763m high, Mutarazi Falls is about seven times taller than Victoria Falls and is Africa’s second highest after South Africa’s Tugela Falls.
