Mutare unites for Tenax

- Ray Bande Senior Reporter

THE usually fragmented football fraternity in Mutare for once has come together to support Tenax C.S FC’s bid to evade the dreaded relegation chop, come the end of the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premiership season.

While sport is expected to naturally unite people from different social, political and religious backgrounds, in Mutare, the scenario has not only been different, but nauseating over the years, as sharp differences and an endemic pull him down syndrome among followers of the game being the order of the day.

But for once, followers of the game have come together to support the correctional services outfit and ensure that the eastern border city remains with two teams in the top-flight league.

Even the tone in different social media platforms reflects a community bounded by one target, and that is to see the correctional services outfit surviving the chop.

The unity has, however, not fully translated into financial and material assistance for Tenax C.S FC whose players are prone to bribes, given the midnight shenanigans usually associated with the relegation dogfight.

Only a few businesspersons have chipped in with financial and material support, among them the Blessing Tendai Mangwiro-owned Big Rock Logistics and Kenneth Muchina.

Commissioner Spetosomusa ZPCS Moyo-Chinobva received regalia and financial donation from local earthmoving, transport and recoveries concern, The Big Rock Logistics.

In their remaining fixtures, the correctional services side will face army outfit Black Rhinos, Triangle, Ngezi Platinum, Cranborne Bullets and wrap up the season with a date against Manica Diamonds.

Their chairman, Stefani Masina said: “As the Tenax family, we thank those who are coming to our rescue, The Big Rock Logistics and Kennth Muchina to mention, but a few.

“Their support have boosted morale in our camp and have motivated our players.

“We are fighting to run away from relegation and come next year, Tenax C.S. will be part of the top-flight league.

“We just want to plead with the local corporate community to chip in any way they can. We need to motivate these players so that we keep this Premiership slot for Manicaland.”

Their assistant coach, Isaac Nengomasha is confident that the club will survive relegation if the necessary support is rendered.

“Chances are very high for us to evade relegation because I feel we have struck a purple patch at the right time and with the solid perception we have showcased in the last three matches, I feel we will survive the chop, come the end of season

“More-so, with the depth that is at our disposal, we will achieve that goal. During our last match against Yadah, we had two regular players suspended, but we managed to collect maximum points away from home. The morale in the camp is high and the boys are rearing to go and improve their profiles as players.

“The only thing that could be needed is the support from all stakeholders for us to ensure that next season Manicaland has three clubs in the top-flight league including the recently promoted, GreenFuel and *Manica Diamonds,” he said.
