Fire station for Dangamvura
IN a development that seeks to ease extensive damage to property and human life in the event of fire, Mutare City Council has established a fire station sub-office at Chirowakamwe Beerhall in Dangamvura.
The handover-takeover ceremony of the premises was done on Wednesday, with Pungwe Breweries’ management officially surrendering the property to Mutare City Council.
Speaking during the ceremony, acting town clerk, Mr Blessing Chafesuka said the establishment of a fire station sub-office is part of a process that will culminate in the decentralisation of all other services to the office.
“It is important to note that the establishment of this fire station is part of a broader initiative to decentralise our services to communities around us. To that end, in two months’ time, we should be having all the other services being offered here.
“From here, we are moving to Chikanga where we will identify a central area that will service areas around Chikanga and Hobhouse,” said Mr Chafesuka.
He said residents need to keep fire response services contact numbers.
“For those who have been following reports in the Press, they might have noticed that there is a house that was recently razed to the ground here in Dangamvura after the fire brigade was called in late. This is just one case among many other cases around Mutare that gave us the impetus to take these fire services to the communities.
“We will soon be making the public aware of the contact numbers for the fire services here. Everyone should have those contacts. We have noticed that when fire breaks out, people usually call for help very late after they would have tried to douse the flames on their own and failed.
“It is sad that people generally do not take this seriously until they experience fire breakouts in their homes. This has to change,” he said. A fully serviced fire reaction truck is now stationed at Chirowakamwe Beerhall premises.
