Mushrooming of private schools disturbing
Thank you for investigating and exposing that there are private learning institutions mushrooming across Manicaland. This disturbing trend must immediately be nipped in the bud for it has negative and far-reaching repercussions on the education sector, with learning standards and teaching quality being heavily compromised. This is finding expression in unqualified staff, bloated teacher-learner ratios and substandard infrastructure. This is daylight robbery after parents and guardians would have sacrificed a lot to meet the ever-increasing demands for their children’s education. We call upon the relevant authorities to step in and restore sanity and dignity of this sector. — Concerned parent
Development of Meikles Park most welcome
The idea to build a multi-million facility housing a hotel, a shopping mall, a bank, a convenience shop, and a fuel station at Mutare’s Meikles Park is noble. This transformation will undoubtedly improve the status of Mutare and help turn it into a smart city. The development will speak to Government’s efforts to attain an empowered and prosperous upper-middle income economy through Vision 2030. Lloyd Sengere
Deal decisively with stock theft
The rising cases of stock theft in Makoni and Mutasa districts must be dealt with decisively as the vice is eroding household livelihoods and threatening food security. Effective policing initiatives like regular patrols and inspections of livestock need to be carried out in the hotspots as a matter of urgency. The law enforcement agents should also continue working hand in glove with traditional leaders and local communities to curb this rampant crime and bring all the culprits to book. Terrence Mwedzi
Let’s learn from Afcon finals
I hope our national football association was taking notes from the just-ended Africa Cup of Nations and drew valuable lessons on how best to improve our own game. Two of our group opponents in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers – South Africa and Nigeria – pulled through to the Afcon semi-finals and finals respectively, and this clearly shows that they are no push-overs. We need to be at our very best when facing them in the upcoming games so that we remain in contention to clinch the ticket to the global soccer showpiece. Edward Nyamukapa
