Kapumha retains chairmanship

MUTARE-BASED rugby administrator, Mos Kapumha, was handed a fresh four-year term at the helm of Manicaland Rugby Board (MRB) during last Saturday’s Annual General Meeting held at their Mutare Sports Club citadel.

Kapumha will lead a board that comprises two deputies, George Mufute and Leanne Bhaudhi, secretary, Casper ‘Belt’ Bandi and treasurer, Kudakwashe Dube.

Mufute replaces veteran rugby administrator and former star player, Mackenzie Munetsi, while Bhaudhi comes in a new post that was created to cater for women representation as per the new standards at World Rugby and Zimbabwe Rugby Union.

Upon his re-election, Kapumha said:“Our vision and plan is in line with the country’s National Development Strategy (NDS1) and Manicaland Rugby Board mantra - Rugby for all.

“We have identified three critical areas which include the growth of rugby in all the seven districts of Manicaland, creating clubs in all the districts and introducing training and education in all the seven districts through the assistance of National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) and National Association Secondary Heads (NASH) as well as tertiary institutions.

“We will conduct courses for coaches and referees for the 15s and 7s, medics, administrators, strength and conditioning. Upskilling is of importance to us as it equips and enlightens our province at all levels. It ensures that rugby is played with trained people and play the game within the confines of the laws and it is done safely.

“This will also prepare our personnel to take up any posts or positions at any level nationally and globally as they will have the necessary prerequisites and qualifications.”

Kapumha talked of the need to have a more vigorous approach in engaging the corporate community.

“We will continue to engage the corporate world to partner with MRB so as to keep changing lives.

“This board comes with years of experience in different sectors from coaching, girl child issues management, schools’management and administration. Teamwork will be the hallmark of our rugby administration work,” said the leader.
