- Liberty Dube

A 25-YEAR-OLD Buhera man will spend the rest of his life in prison after he gruesomely murdered his aunt by hacking her with an axe and chopping off her head over an undisclosed issue.

Admire Kimbini of Muchapararwa Village recently appeared before Mutare High Court Judge, Justice Isaac Muzenda as he was facing murder charges.

Principal prosecutor, Mr Malvern Musarurwa represented the State.

The grisly murder happened in 2022. The court heard that Kimbini struck her aunt, Ms Merry Maingire thrice with an axe, once on the forehead, once on the right side of the head and once on the chest.

Ms Maingire died on the spot.

The deceased’s body was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood, while her head, which had been chopped off, was on the fireplace.

“On May 14, 2022, Kimbini struck Ms

Maingire thrice with an axe and she died on the spot.

“Her body was conveyed to Murambinda Mission Hospital mortuary and it was certified dead by Dr Gutsire. On May 26, 2022, and at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare, Dr Yoandry Olay Mayedo carried out a post mortem examination on the body and concluded that the cause of death was due to brain and severe head injuries,” said Mr Musarurwa.

One of the witnesses, Ms Sophia

Mapani, who was Ms Maingire’s mother-in-law, said she was informed by a three-year-old juvenile (name withheld) that Kambini was attacking the deceased with an axe.

Ms Mapani rushed to the scene and saw Ms Maingire lying on the floor in a pool of blood and her head on the fireplace.

Ms Maingire’s hair was slightly burnt and her blouse was soaked in blood.

A police report was made, leading to Kambini’s arrest and the recovery of the murder weapon.
