A NYANYADZI woman is seeking the intervention of a community court to stop a local man from impregnating her daughter in the future.

When she appeared before Acting Chief Mutambara’s court last Saturday, Enniah Madenya pleaded with the court to order Success Chibuwe to stop impregnating her daughter, Ruvimbo Madenya.

Ruvimbo is carrying Chibuwe’s second baby.

Madenya argued that Chibuwe neglects his responsibilities as a father and has left her to carry the burden of providing for his three-year-old son.

“We appeared before this court last year when Chibuwe had sued us, accusing my daughter of lying that the boy was his biological son. When we went back home, he sent my daughter packing. I had no qualms with that, but he has since struck again and impregnated Ruvimbo again.

“He is back at his old tricks and denying responsibility of the pregnancy. He had taken back my daughter behind my back,” charged Madenya.

She said she has had enough of Chibuwe’s shenanigans, adding that although he is gainfully employed, he does not contribute anything towards the upkeep of his son.

“I beg you to stop Chibuwe from impregnating my daughter. He should either marry her or stop sleeping with her. It is very painful because my daughter’s uncles are also feeling the pain and are now chasing her away from home when we all know that it is not her fault that this wolf in sheep’s clothing continues luring her back into his arms. He sweet talks her each time,” she said.

Asked by the court how she was impregnated for the second time by a man who has denied paternity of her child before the same court, Ruvimbo said, “All I want is for him to take care of his children. When he impregnated me the second time, he said he would rent a room for me and provide for his family. However, as soon as I got pregnant, he disappeared.”

During the court session, Chibuwe was in default.

When the court tried calling Chibuwe, his phone went unanswered.

His father, Ambanai Chibuwe then answered and said he had not attended the court session as he is not the one who impregnated Ruvimbo.

This infuriated Ruvimbo’s uncle, Robson Madenya, who begged the court to reign in the Chibuwes.

“We feel like the court is letting us down because Chibuwe’s father is a village head. He has impregnated several girls in the village with promises to marry them. Once they fall pregnant, he shifts goalposts and deny paternity. These women do not take any action against him as his father is the village head. Please help us to bring this man to book,” he said.

Acting Chief Mutambara said Chibuwe’s behaviour is unacceptable.

He said it appears as if Chibuwe is taking advantage of the fact that his father is the village head and goes around abusing young women in Chibuwe Village.

“It is essential to recognise that such

actions perpetuate inequality, perpetrate harm, and violate the rights of these women. Society must condemn such behaviour and work towards creating a more equitable and respectful environment for everyone,” he said.

He adjourned the matter to tomorrow (Saturday) to allow Chibuwe and his father to be summoned to appear before the court.
