Quest for love portion backfires

- Tendai Gukutikwa

A NYANGA woman is under fire for allegedly teaming up with her mother to separate her estranged husband and his lover.

Sithokozile Nyamakanga and her mother Anna Nyabadza allegedly consulted a traditional healer, Sekuru Sithole, to acquire a love portion that would bring back her husband, Collin Tekeza.

Tekeza had eloped with his lover. However, the mother-daughter duo was told that the woman who was staying with Tekeza was strong spiritually and had to be killed if they wanted Tekeza back home.

This emerged at Chief Saunyama’s community court recently.

Nyabadza denied ever acquiring charms from Sithole with her daughter.

She said her daughter, who was in default on the day, had chickened out of the deal after hearing that she had to kill her husband’s lover to get him back.

“What I know is that when my daughter was presented with the option to kill Tekeza’a lover, she backed down. What she wanted was having her husband back, not to kill anyone. She was also told that she would die if she took Tekeza back while his lover was still alive,” said Nyabadza.

Nyabadza said when Tekeza tried to go back to his wife and family, Nyamakanga refused to take him back, fearing for her life.

“After her husband left home, my daughter approached me saying her friends had advised her to consult Sithole for help. I asked her if this would not have any repercussions in the future as Sithole is known as a goblin dealer who gives people goblins in the form of love portions and herbs.

“I was afraid that if she went alone, she would acquire a goblin and kill her husband, that is why I escorted her to Sithole’s shrine. My daughter told Sithole that she only wanted a love portion so that Tekeza would come back home. She was charged US$100 but she paid US$70,” she said.

Sithole allegedly told them that within 14 days, Tekeza would be back home.

“However, Tekeza did not return home during the stipulated time and Sithokozile went back to the traditional healer.

Said Nyabadza: “When Sithokozile went back there, Sithole told her that her husband’s lover was spiritually strong and eliminating her was the only solution.

“My daughter refused to take that route and opted to lose Tekeza for good,” said Nyabadza.

However, Sithole says during her second visit, Sithokozile acquired some love portions.

“Due to the power of my portions, her husband later came back home. When l helped her, I told them that I wanted one beast from her,” said the traditional healer.

Nyabadza then promised that her daughter would pay up within three months. Tekeza was furious when he heard that Sithokozile had acquired some charms to separate him and his lover.
