Mutema-Musikavanhu constituency launches competitions for ECDs
KPrimary School in Mutema-Musikavanhu Constituency was a hive of activity last Saturday as scores of Early Child Development Centre (ECDs) learners participated in various sporting activities, thanks to the resourcefulness of Primary and Secondary Education Ministry’s Deputy Minister, Honourable Angeline Gata.
Deputy Minister Gata demonstrated her passion for early child development by launching the ECDs competition.
Driven by the motto:“Catch them young,” the ECDs competition was a first of its kind in
Chipinge District, and is expected to spread to all corners of Manicaland Province and Zimbabwe at large.
The launch of the competition also narrowed the gap between infant and junior education in exposure to competitions.
This creates opportunities for broader education initiatives that will help in the identification of young talents in different disciplines in line with the new curriculum.
Learners participated in athletics (50m, 75m and 100m races), tug of war, skipping rope, sack race, potato race, tyre race, gymnastics, shuttle race, athletics relays and reciting of poems. The winners received gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
No school was declared a winner. Adjudicators were drawn from locals who have certificates in different disciplines.
Deputy Minister Gata who was the guest of honour said: “The ultimate goal of this gathering was to engage ECD infants to participate in various sporting activities just like their peers in junior school. We want to help identify talent from the early stages of life, hence the theme:“Catch them young”. We will continue having such initiatives to ensure that no one and no place is left behind in the development agenda.”
National Housing and Social Amenities Deputy Minister, Honourable Yeukai Simbanegavi also graced the occasion.
