Appreciation message exposes illicit affair

- Ray Bande Senior Reporter

A LOST text message, inscribed: “Ende Mhofu munogona”, sent by a married woman to a local village head in Makoni District in appreciation of the latter’s performance in bed exposed their illicit affair.

After a steamy sexual escapade, Pascalia Zvidi’s text message of appreciation that was meant for her impressive boyfriend and village head, Lameck Mashanga, erroneously landed in her husband Dick Damba’s inbox.

Upon interrogation by her husband on the lost text message, Zvidi admitted that it was indeed intended for Mashanga. She said she had slept with him once in a bushy area near their homestead.

Following these events, Damba, who works for a local security company in

Mutare, while his wife takes care of their rural home, took his wife to her rural home in Masvingo Province where he handed over a divorce token (gupuro) to his in-laws.

In a telephone interview this week, Zvidi admitted her mistake and begged this reporter to convince her husband to forgive and readmit her into their matrimonial home.

Zvidi said: “I made a mistake. I slept with the village head once under an avocado pear tree in a busy area in our village. He gave me US$20 for the intimacy.

“I wanted to send the message to the village head, but the message was mistakenly sent to my husband. In that message, I wrote, ‘Ende Mhofu munogona’. I admitted my mistake and begged for forgiveness, but my husband took me to my parents’ home in

Masvingo where he paid US$10 as a divorce token.

“However, I am back here in Mutare, trying to negotiate with my husband so that we let bygone be bygones. I made a mistake and I will never do it again.

“I wish you would assist me in talking to my husband so that he can readmit me into our matrimonial home. I am really sorry for what happened and I promise that this is the last time such a thing will ever happen.”

In a separate interview, the husband, Damba said: “I was so angry when I discovered all this, and I took my wife to her rural home in Masvingo where I paid US$10 as a divorce token.

“Right now she is here, trying to negotiate for a reunion. I think that can only happen after this village head pays compensation for what he did to me.”

Damba said he summoned Mashanga to his homestead in Makoni after the discovery of his wife’s illicit affair with him, but he did not turn up.

“In fact, we are related to Mashanga. He is my nephew. After I had discovered what had happened, I summoned him to my homestead where I had also invited some elders in the family, but he refused to come.

“I reported the matter to Headman Nechironga, but they said I need to pay US$15 for the matter to be heard (mari yedare). I am yet to return with that money so that the matter is heard before the headman’s court,” said Damba.

Efforts to get a comment from Mashanga were fruitless until the time of going to print as his mobile phone was unreachable.
