Mubobobo kills female family members

- Tendai Gukutikwa

A MUTASA family has been plagued by an awkward ailment which results in female victims bleeding profusely, suffer bouts of unconsciousness and lose their marbles prior to their contentious demise within a five-month window.

So far, two members of the family died within five months, while another victim, who is on her deathbed is exuding similar symptoms.

And a superstitious member of the embattled family has come out guns blazing, accusing his maternal uncle of being behind the demise of his own mother, wife, while rendering his young brother’s wife bedridden.

Kuda Parutsva no longer see eye-to-eye with his uncle, James Marondo, whom he accused of killing his mother and wife through sorcery.

Marondo and Parutsva’s mother were siblings.

Parutsva said they approached a prophet who accused their uncle of possessing mubobobo (the magic for bedding a woman without consent and physical contact) which he uses to sexually abuse females in the family — hence their profuse bleeding, coupled with some mental incoherences.

The matter appeared before Chief Mutasa’s community court recently, after an aggrieved Marondo dragged his nephew, Parutsva to court, arguing that he was fed up with the endless accusations.

He said after parenting Parutsva from childhood, his nephew now has the guts to call him names.

An unyielding Parutsva, however, mockingly thanked his uncle for bringing the matter to court, and begged Chief Mutasa to extricate the family from his bondage of wizardry.

“This man wants to wipe out the whole family, and what is saddening is that he only targets female members. When my mother died, she had been experiencing bouts of insanity, coupled with profuse bleeding.

“She would lose consciousness every now and then. We took her to doctors who told us that she did not have enough blood in her body. This was after my uncle had visited her. Thereafter, she died,” said Parutsva.

He said five months later, his wife fell sick and exuded similar symptoms.

“My wife was admitted at a hospital in Harare, and one of the days after visiting my wife at hospital, my uncle spotted me at home. He called and labelled me his ‘good for nothing’ (rombe) nephew. My wife started bleeding non-stop.

At first I did not suspect him.

“I only started suspecting him when he came chanting praises to his ancestors in my house, and shortly afterward my wife died. I was convinced it was him who had caused her death,” charged an angry Parutsva.

Parutsva said his brother’s wife is now bedridden and exuding the same symptoms.

This, he said angered and prompted him to confront and call his uncle names.

“She is acting as if she has lost all her senses, over and above which she is bleeding profusely like that woman in the Bible. As we speak she is bleeding non-stop just like what my mother and wife did before they passed on. We approached a prophet who told us that our uncle (Marondo) uses mubobobo to sexually abuse women.

“The prophet told us that this is the reason why his victims lost a lot of blood before their deaths. Out of anger, I burnt his huts because we cannot continue to lose innocent people in the family because of one person.

He needs to be stopped. He also received and squandered all my sisters’ lobola, instead of our father,” he said.

Parutsva further claimed that their parents parted ways when they were young and as a result, they were brought up in the Marondo family.

“Because he received all my sisters’ lobola without officially engaging our father, all of them are having failed marriages. A remedy has to be found as soon as possible,” he said.

Marondo said her late sister’s children must leave and stay with their father as he cannot stomach their insults and accusations anymore.

“They labelled me a wizard. They burnt my huts and attacked my livestock. He even

Kuda Parutsva attacked me with bricks. I have not known peace with my nephew. I received his sisters’ lobola because when their father divorced my sister, he gave me the nod to do so. In fact, he disowned all his children, claiming that

they now belonged to their mother and the Marondo family,” he said.

The octogenarian said what pains him most is the allegation that he had a hand in his sister (their mother)’s death.

He said he was granted a protection order against Parutsva by the courts.

Chief Mutasa advised the family to seek spiritual counselling and revert back to the court tomorrow (Saturday).
