Golf great Nick Price re-lists Florida home for $17 million

FLORIDA — Nick Price, a retired former top-ranked golfer, is trying once again to sell his estate on Florida’s Jupiter Island, this time for $17 million. He previously listed it for close to $22 million in 2016 and took it off the market early last year, according to Zillow.

Before the virus, the Jupiter market was sputtering and price cuts were plentiful. Now sales are increasing as buyers from the Northeast, now able to work from home, head south. A recent report by Douglas Elliman shows that sales in the Jupiter and Palm Beach Gardens areas, including Jupiter Island, were up 19.3% in the third quarter compared with the same period last year. The median sales price was up 15.8%.

Tracy Ward of the Eklund|Gomes Team at Douglas Elliman, one of the agents representing Price this time around, declined to comment on his reasons for selling but said he is motivated. “I think he wants to sell. That’s clear with the new price point, we’re pricing it to move,” she said.

Price dominated the golf world in the mid1990s, winning three majors and leading the PGA Tour money list twice. For 43 weeks, he was listed as the world number one golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking.

The Zimbabwean golfer has three major championships under his belt, including PGA Championships in 1992 and 1994 and the Open Championship in 1994. He bought the land for $4 million in 1994, records show. He had the home custom-designed in traditional style with African influences in the late-1990s, Ward said.

Described as "its own world", it boasts five bedrooms, an expansive lawn, a pool and a veranda to enjoy dinner on.

The home has an indoor/outdoor design, with Price able to feel the ocean breeze blow into the property from most rooms.

The house sits on a lot that measures nearly 6.5 acres, enough space to launch the living style with a long and atmospheric driveway flanked with native flora. When the Tuscan-inspired house appears, it begins grandly, with a lengthy porte-cochere as a preamble.

The five-bedroom home’s 11,017 sq ft of interiors are very refined, with appealing scale, and a contemporary design style.

The kitchen is especially attractive, with ceiling beams and supports that are uncommonly graceful and complex enough to be remarkable, a bright dayroom adjacent, and a seamless transition to a family room with a barrel ceiling. Stone tile floors and plentiful hardwood are notable details.

The grounds feature a pool and spa, but the 259’ of frontage on the Intracoastal Waterway and private beach access are the highlights of the exterior. An unusually fine home on a large parcel in one of the more desirable spots in South Florida.

Golfing greats past and present have made the stunning town of Jupiter Island in Florida their home for decades now.

From Gary Player to Tiger Woods all the way through to Rory McIlroy, these sports stars are drawn to the picturesque barrier island that's home to some of the wealthiest people in the United States.

Not only is it a tax haven, with Florida residents not having to pay any personal income tax, Jupiter Island offers fortress-like mansions that give the biggest stars the utmost privacy.
