Zima ‘paints’ Cool Crooners legacy

- BY SINDISO DUBE

ZIMBABWE Music Awards [Zima] organisers last week paid tribute to the legendary Cool Crooners by handing them their Lifetime Achievement award and painted the house of long-time member Lucky Todhlana in Mpopoma suburb.

The Cool Crooners were awarded the Lifetime Achievement award in February.

The award rewards the contributions made by the musicians towards the development and advancement of the Zimbabwean music industry.

Sandra Ndebele, Noluntu J, Vuyo Brown, Thandy Dlana, Stewie La Savage, Mzoe 7 and Zim Hip-hop Awards director Beefy Harrison were among artistes who took part in painting Todhlana’s house.

The gesture also saw the awards ceremony organisers led by Zima CEO Reason ‘Rizla’ Sibanda donating food hampers to the trio namely George Salimu, Thodhlana and Abraham Ncube.

“We are happy that the arts industry and its players still remember us especially in the times of Covid-19 where we are not having any shows. The gesture is welcome a lot. We hope that what they have done for us now doesn’t end with us,” said Salimu.

Sibanda spoke highly of the trio and encouraged the sector not to neglect those who came before.

“It was a great moment spending time with the Cool Crooners, we handed over their lifetime achievement award and donated groceries. We learnt a lot from the time we had with them and we encourage the industry to always go back to the greats who have led the way for us,” said Sibanda.

The trio went on to promise new music they said they were in the process of recording and would be released soon.
