Batsirai Shasha sets for the top
Rising contemporary musician Batsirai Shasha has set his sights on conquering the local and international music scene. The Afro-jazz performing artiste, who plays all instruments including the guitar, mbira and piano, said he is buoyed by the support from fans.
“I am giving my all so that my music brand has got the right ambience at the local and international stage,” Shasha said.
“My strength is in composing and performing music given my ability to play various instruments and I am glad that the market has received me well.”
The passionate crooner, who started performing at a young age holds a Bsc Music And Musicology Honours Degree from Midlands State University and is able to interpret his recorded works for the international music scene.
“I started performing in primary school in different art clubs and I am now confident of my music capabilities,” Shasha said.
“I went to Midlands State University, College of Music and also attended the Music Crossroads for music training.
“My dream is to represent the country on the international stage.”
Shasha, who started performing three years ago, has released two albums to date.
“I started performing three years ago with the dream of going to local and international music festivals,” he said.
“I managed to release two albums and did some performances around the country.
“The dream was obstructed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“However, I plan to release more videos and more songs.”
The talented artiste is managed by his mother, Florence Chaurura, who has managed to build his brand from scratch.
“My mum has been my biggest supporter from day one. She consumes and markets my music to the best of her capacity,” Shasha said.
“She has worked on my brand from scratch until today. I am happy with our progress to date.”
Chaurura said she was happy with the reception her son’s music has received.
“Our local music scene is friendly to new sound and new faces,” she said.
“My dream is to see more artistes representing Zimbabwe on the international stage and I am happy that Batsirai is doing exactly that.
“Our relationship is highly professional and we are working flat out to ensure viability.”
Shasha is inspired by life and people and is already involved in charity work.
“The life stories that are surrounding me make me want to write music and perform,” he said.
“The most unique thing about my music is my church background, which resonates in my music.
“I am already involved in charity work hence my commitment to give back.”
Shasha also shared some words of encouragement with members of the public.
“I just want to encourage fellow citizens to continue exploring their talents and pursuits in life,” he said.
“Stay true to yourself and don’t allow anything to distract you.”
Meanwhile. Shasha had a good day in office on Friday night at his maiden 2021 live concert at Theatre in the Park, Harare Gardens following relaxation of Covid-19 regulations.
The show was attended by a decent crowd despite of the US$10 per head gate charges.
A number of local artistes among them Diana Samkange, Ammi Jamanda, Sasha Madhuve, Feli Nandi and Marcy Janyure attended the event.
