No curse comes without a cause
A curse does not manifest without a cause. At times those that are cursed participated in instituting that curse upon their lives. A curse is an utterance intended to invoke a supernatural power to inflict harm or punishment on someone or something. Joshua pronounced a curse on any individual that would rebuild the city of Jericho “Cursed before the Lord be the man who rises up and rebuilds this city, Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and at the cost of his youngest son shall he set up its gates” (Joshua 6: 26). Hiel of Bethel laid the foundation of Jericho at the cost of the life of his son Abiram when he laid the foundation, he ignored that the place had a curse and his ignorance cost him the life of two sons.
In old times accursed places were never secret, but the curse and the words of the curse would have been repeated generations after Joshua had died, because if the words were never recorded and passed on, the death of Hiel’s sons would never have been recorded. Joshua never said Jericho would not be rebuilt but he said the rebuilding would come at a cost for the one who would build or led in the project. So, Hiel could have known and chosen to ignore the words and it cost him. He intentionally awakened the curse. Ignorance of spiritual laws does not bring immunity. The curse on Jericho was there for years but no one did anything to activate it until Hiel came. Even if we say he did not know when his first son died, he should have stopped to enquire but he continued with rebuilding the city gates at the cost of his other son.
So, in other words, Hiel qualified himself to inherit the curse of Joshua. The Bible says in Proverbs 26: 2, a curse causeless shall not come. Some may say he never knew but when you understand how curses work you discover that no curse manifests without a cause. I have discovered even if someone curses you it does not affect you if there was no cause for the curse. That’s why whenever the enemy wants to curse you, he sends the spirit of offence and in anger you then qualify yourself for the curse. Whenever you see offence in your heart, you must be careful because offence opens your heart and makes it easy for others to curse you. That’s why the Bible says live peacefully with all men. The curse came on Hiel because there was a cause. The Bible does not record why he started the project but he qualified himself for the curse way before he started to even rebuild the foundation of the city. There is a Shona proverb which roughly translates to “medicine does not attach itself where there is no wound”. A curse needs something it can use as access to its victims’ life and there are so many ways one can qualify themselves for a curse. Greed, envy, malice and other negative qualities qualify people for a curse. But the easiest way to gain immunity against a curse is to walk in love. It is impossible to curse a person who walks in love because love can never be corrupted. A man or woman who walks in love is immune from any form of curse.
Some have been discouraged from adopting children in fear of inviting attacks. But anything done in love will never corrupt you. A curse manifests only where there is a cause. It is time not to walk in fear but to be empowered through knowledge. God bless you.
