Male nurse delivers baby by roadside

A 43-year-old Karoi based male nurse has become an instant social media hero after photos of him helping a pregnant woman deliver her baby by the roadside on Thursday went viral.

The woman gave birth on her way to a local clinic about 12km from Karoi town along the Karoi-Harare highway.

Umali Jawadu said they were accompanying two other pregnant women from Karoi to Chinhoyi hospital in an ambulance when they noticed that the woman, who was been accompanied by another pregnant woman, was delivering a baby by the roadside.

“She was lying on the ground, her maternity dress soiled with blood. Many vehicles had passed and no one ever stopped to help her,” Jawadu, a father of five, said.

“The expecting mothers intended to go to Zebra Downs clinic near Jonasi farm where they reside. We had our emergency kit in the ambulance and it saved the situation as I used it to successfully deliver the baby.”
