Bulawayo rapist jailed

A Bulawayo man appeared in court last week facing charges of raping a nine-year-old girl while her parents were attending an all-night prayer vigil elsewhere.

Forbes Muveva (54) of Kensington pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo Regional magistrate Nokubonga Malunga.

At the close of the state case, Malunga convicted and sentenced Muveva to 15 years in jail.

Three years of the sentence were suspended for ve years on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Naison Chivayo said sometime in November last year, the child was left at home by her parents who went to attend a night prayer session.

During the night, church congregants saw the child coming to them crying and said she had been abused.

They examined the child and discovered she had been bruised on her private parts.
