Boost for Makepekepe

- BY MUNYARADZI MADZOKERE

FORMER champions CAPS United received a massive boost ahead of their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash against Black Rhinos at Sakubva Stadium this afternoon, after concluding the signing and registration of former Soccer Stars of the Year Rodwell Chinyengetere (pictured) and Dennis Dauda as well as Devon Chafa.

Dauda and Chafa are making a return to a club with which they won the league title in 2016 while Chinyengetere has also won multiple league titles with defending champions FC Platinum.

The trio is available for selection as Makepekepe search for a much needed rst win of the season after a di cult Afcon break which saw the team lose a number of players while players have boycotted training over unpaid dues.

CAPS United administrator Morton Dodzo con rmed the new development.

“We have concluded the signing of Dauda, Chinyengetere and Chafa and it’s now up to the coach to select them for the match against Black Rhinos,” he told Standardsport.

“We have prepared and I think we are ready to start o the league campaign and I see us surprising many people this season. We will be travelling to Mutare on Sunday morning since the distance is not that long and I can safely say everything is in order,” he added.

In spite of reports suggesting that the club is on the brink of collapse following a number of departures during the current transfer window, CAPS United still have a strong squad, which includes the likes of Clive Augusto, Phineas Bamusi, Ian Nyoni, Ronald Chitiyo and Leeroy Mavhunga among others.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe is also con dent that the new signings will add value to the team’s campaign this year.

“CAPS are an ambitious club whose bar is set high, therefore, we sign players based on pro les tting the club’s requirements. As it is a big club, we also require big players like the recently-contracted players such as Chinyengetere, Chafa, Dauda and Manondo.

"In short, we are ready for the season.”

“As for the new players, we obviously signed them for the reason of adding value to the team and they are training so well that we obviously expect them to deliver on Sunday,” he said. The Green Machine have managed two draws in the rst two matches of the current league competition after playing goalless stalemates with ZPC Kariba and Harare City to sit 11th on the standings.

Black Rhinos had a better start to the season beating Bulawayo giants 2 – 0 on the opening day before playing a one-all draw with Herentals as they occupy seventh place ahead of the rescheduled week three matches this weekend.

The Herbert Marowa coached side has added a number of new signings including Keith Madera, Christopher Brighton, Stanley Murove, Denzel Mutudza, Joe Nyabinde, and Ngandu Mangala to the squad to face CAPS United.
