Nine year old boy struck by lightning in Binga

- BY PRESTIGE MUNTANGA

A nine-year-old boy from Sinamsanga area in Binga district was struck and killed by lighting on Tuesday.

The boy had taken shelter from rains under a tree when lightning struck and killed him on the spot. A source told Sunday Southern Eye that the incident happened around 6pm in the evening.

"There were signs that it was going to rain. The surprising thing is how the incident happened because no one was expecting it. It wasn't even raining much. Indications are that the child was on his way home from the elds when the rain started," he said.

"We have witnessed several such incidents and some of the people claim the lightning is manmade. In our area, it is believed that if you wrong someone they will take revenge on you by sending lightning."

Matabeleland North acting provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Mahohoma said the police were yet to get more information about the incident. —
