US dollar salaries for kapenta workers
EMPLOYEES in the Kapenta sector will now earn salaries in United States dollars following negotiations between unions and the industry representative council.
Kapenta Workers’ Union of Zimbabwe secretary-general Rhodes Kufandafeva Madyira confirmed the development saying the move will cushion workers as the local currency continues losing value.
“We appreciate the move by employers in the Kapenta industry that they have acknowledged that the value of the Zimbabwe dollar is getting eroded,” Madyira said.
“Workers will earn between US$105 and US$240 with effect from March 1 depending on the grade.
“The US$ is a stable currency in terms of value thus we anticipate an improvement in terms of production.” —
