Zandezi to make US debut appearance
Awa rd-winning Cadrick Khekhe Msongelwa says they are taking their award-winning theatre production titled Zandezi to the United States.
The event, which will run from May 1 till 8 at The Lab Gathering in Washington DC, will see Ronald Madolax Sigeca and Lloyd Nyikadzino also on tour.
The production will also have its debut appearance at Seattle on May 10 to 11, May 12 to15 in Portland Oregon, May 19 to 22 at the Blue Lake, Humboldt and May 23 to 27 in Bay AreaCalifornia.
“We have a tour to the US, Washington DC and we are set to present our award-winning show
Zandezi for the first time there and we will also have a few performances in the US,” Msongelwa told Standard Style.
He said they felt excited to take their act abroad and besides the award-winning production, they will showcase their new baby titled The Playhouse.
“We also have a new production that we have started working on under our new baby,” Msongelwa said. “The Playhouse — it’s a production house and with this production we hope people will love it.
“Taking our act abroad is exciting and also a little bit scary.
“You have to really put up an international package, universal to everyone so that they understand. Hopefully ours is at that.”
Commenting on the theatre journey, Msongelwa said: “The journey has not been easy as I thought it would be.”
“We have had our ups and downs but the excitement is too.
“As we are slowly heading to the direction of the vision we had from the very start.
“The idea was to create a show that will have a life span of 10 or more years running, it's happening in some countries that is the mindset we also want to adopt or l instill in ourselves.”
He said they were grateful that they have seen it happening with their production Zandezi and they have learnt a lot throughout the whole journey.
“I must say there is still alot for us to learn,” Msongelwa said.
“It is almost every Zimbabwean child to have their dreams take them that far.
“It was the same case with us hence it's so exciting and overwhelming to see our dream coming alive.
“We hope to represent Zimbabwe well and actually create more opportunities for ourselves and those that look up to us, there is alot of talent waiting for this breakthrough it would be nice to actually be the ones opening doors for others.”
Meanwhile, Sigeca said taking their act abroad was a dream come true.
“This really feels amazing and more like a dream come true, it has always been my prayer to not only be limited in Zimbabwe but to take my abilities/talent to the world,” Sigeca said.
“My wish is that we get more bigger opportunities while still in the US.
“It would be nice to collaborate with creators from that side or maybe a movie role, I mean who knows the sky is the limit,” he said.
