Gokwe man fined for insurance fraud
A Gokwe man was ned $10 000 for making a false report about his son’s death so that he can claim EcoSure funeral cover compensation.
Dumisani Mtendeleki (48) of Mashove Village under Chief Njelele pleaded guilty to contravening the provisions of the Birth and Deaths Registration Act when he appeared before Gokwe magistrate Musaiwona Shortgame.
Prosecutors said Mtendeleki made a false death report of his son in 2019 to claim funeral cover.
The matter came to light when Mtendeleki misplaced the death certi cate, and his son Wellington picked it up.
In mitigation, Mtendeleki said hunger forced him to commit the crime to feed his family, his son included. —
