Mine manager acquitted

DURA Gold Investment ( DGI) Private Limited, Queens Mine administra­tion manager Langton Mharira in Inyathi, Matabelela­nd North has been acquitted on charges of sexually assaulting a female subordinat­e.

Benardate Mukuku (32) led a report against Mharira in December last year.

Mharira was denying the charge when he appeared before Inyathi Magistrate Thomas Gurajena.

In his ruling, Gurajena said there was no compelling evidence against Mharira.

Mukuku had also led a report with the Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Mineral Workers Union (Zdamwu) and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission .

Zdamwu secretary general Justice Chinhema on January 4, 2022 later wrote to the Judiciary Service Commission, National Prosecutio­n Authority and of cer in charge Inyathi police about the incident.

In her statements, Mukuku said she was sexually assaulted on December 20, 2020 when Mharira arrived for orientatio­n at the company.

She also alleged victimisat­ion at work after turning down Mharira’s advances.
