Byo leisure spots prepare for ZITF, Uhuru celebrations

- By Sindiso Dube

After missing the annual Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Bulawayo leisure spots seem to have made proper preparations for this year’s edition by making necessary renovations to keep up with the standards.

The upmarket Cosmopolitan Nightclub, situated at the Ascot Racecourse, recently relaunched, exhibiting a newly refurbished look and set up. The night club has also added a kitchen to its set up that serves good food as revelers imbibe their favorite drinks.

Refurbishments are not new to the nightclub, which is a sister club to Zarah Lounge, Crystal, Cubana and Havana Cigar Lounge, patrons were now accustomed to the red Cosmopolitan, but in a move to bring in a new feel and fresh ambiance to the joint, red had to step aside for the new shades of green, black and navy blue

The refurbishments came in time for the Easter holidays that saw revellers cooling off the steam of the first working quarter of the year.

The new set up also coincided with the return of the ZITF as it will house traders, exhibitors and business people from different spheres of the world.

Cosmo proprietor Phathisani Nkomo said redesigning the spot was a move to give patrons value for their money.

“We made sure that we move with time and re-design Cosmo and turn it into a modern place that meets international standards,” Nkomo said.

“Just like the motto says ‘Because you are worth it’, we value our customers by giving them quality services that are worth their hard earned money.”

The Waverly Hotel also went through a facelift and reopened last week and the director Tapiwa Gandiwa described the move as a new path to the entertainment service.

“We had to refurbish the place and give it a new feel and ambiance,” said Gandiwa.

“Patrons should not always see the same thing every time they visit the place, hence we try to give them a refreshing feel of their favourite spot.

“That’s why we also gave The Palace hotel a facelift so that our clients enjoy it.”

The Boundary Restaurant and Night Club, recently went through a facelift and added a VIP section, which will see patrons enclosed in a glass structure. This week it will host one of the biggest local shows of the year in the city pitting Winky D and Jah Prayzah.

The Phoenix Tshisanyama in Gwanda has also upped its game and made the place more conducive for braais as well as performance shows.

The place has been hosting a number of South African artists.

Recently they hosted Zandimaz, Blaq Diamond and on April 23, they will host dancehall chanter Killer T.
