Hwange averts floods
THE Hwange Local Board (HLB) says construction of storm drains in the coal mining town helped prevent oods in residential areas.
This was revealed by HLB civil engineering technician Tinashe Tapfumaneyi in a latest council report.
“Despite the torrential rains we received, we did not experience any oods.
“I attribute this to our timeous execution in clearing storm water drains,” Tapfumaneyi said.
Tapfumaneyi said the local authority also constructed storm water drains at residential areas which were prone to ash oods.
HLB chairman councillor Nqobile Ocean Mabhena said they used some funds from the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme to x the town’s drainage system.
An area referred to as emaBhananeni in Empumalanga high-density suburb has over the years been prone to oods with a small section in Chibondo medium-density also being a ected.
