Man assaults mother over witchcraft
A 24-year-old man assaulted his mother and younger brother with a broomstick after accusing them of witchcraft.
The matter came to light last Wednesday at the Bindura magistrates courts when Nyasha Sande appeared before magistrate Ruramai Chitumbura charged with assault.
Sande was sentenced to 10 months in prison, but three months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and the remainder committed to community service.
Prosecutor Victoria Choga told the court that on March 24, Sande came home late and found his mother Netsai Chareka (52) and younger brother Roy seated in the dining room watching television.
Nyasha accused the two of using his photographs to bewitch him, before assaulting them.
A police report was filed leading to his arrest.
