Man jailed for raping 14-year-old

A Bindura man has been sentenced to 14 years in jail on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl.

Luckmore Makiyoni Chimugwere tried to bribe his victim with 50 Mozambican Metical, about US$0.78 cents, after the sexual assault.

Chimugwere was convicted by Bindura regional magistrate Amos Mbobo, who suspended two years of his sentence on condition of good behaviour.

Prosecutor Ngoni Kaseke told the court that on June 10, 2021 Chimugwere met the complainant at a river in Mukumbura and threatened her with assault before ordering her to lie down.

He raped her and tried to buy her silence with 50 Mozambican Metical.

Upon being released, the victim reported the matter to the police leading to his arrest.— SIMBARASHE SITHOLE
