Drummer moves in to nurture young talent

Hosted by Mollet Ndebele on April 29 at the Hope Centre opposite Bulawayo Central Police, the show will be headlined by Carl Joshua Ncube, Ntando Van Moyo, Ckanyiso Dat Guy, Maroosh and the reigning Bulawayo Arts Awards winner Zwe.

Founder Ntando Van Moyo said they will produce a docu-series that celebrates their nine years in the industry.

“We are excited to be hosting this show that coincides with the ZITF, we will give our visitors a comedy dosage,” Moyo said.

“Everything is now set for the show and every performer is ready to leave the crowd in stitches.

“The event will also mark our growth, we celebrate nine years in the industry. It's been a good journey as we nurtured and still bring out stars in the game.

“We hope to celebrate this milestone with everyone. “In May we will have a docu-series that will showcase what we have done over the years in the game as we celebrate nine years of laughter.”

Umahlekisa Comedy Club was establishe­d by Moyo and Clive Chigubhu in 2013 as a way to give comedians a platform to show off their talent.

The club is also home to Ms Dee, Zwe and Maroosh and many others.

It has nurtured the likes of Long John, Mandla Da Comedian and Ckanyiso Dat Guy, among others.

Biscuits Company and Drums of Peace and is centred on exploring the arts as a methodolog­y for community children and young people to articulate and identify solutions to their challenges regarding child participat­ion. “The talent show will help community children come together and have a sense of belonging. We also want to identify and nurture talents in children and assist them to find themselves in the arts fraternity,” Ndlovu told Standard Style.

He said the talent show will also help revive a culture of providing young people and youths with a place of hope for their future and realising their dreams.

“We want to create a healthy and positive competitiv­e environmen­t among community children and youths in the communitie­s, help the young people and youths to develop self-esteem and self-respect and for others in the community,” he said.

“We also want to help build confidence among participan­ts of all categories and talent, promote arts as a medium of communicat­ion and expressing self. Above all we want to create a dynamic arts activity in the community and preach our sponsor name – Lobels.”

Ndlovu said participan­ts will receive a certificat­e of participat­ion.

“We find it of great importance to award the participan­ts who will reach the grand finals. this will encourage and develop confidence in them,” he said.

“It will also help them to enhance quality outputs among themselves and maintain audience consistenc­y and appreciati­on.

“The first edition was held last week and finals are on the April 30.”
