Man on the run after raping sex worker

POLICE in Chivhu, Mashonalan­d East Province have launched a manhunt for a man, who allegedly raped and stabbed a sex worker leaving her for dead.

The 38-year- old woman is battling for life at Chivhu Hospital.

Provincial police spokespers­on Inspector Simon Chazovachi­i confirmed the incident.

“Police are looking for the suspect in connection with an incident that occurred in Chivhu where a woman was robbed, stabbed and possibly raped,” he said.

According to police, on April 30, at around 1am, the victim, who is a sex worker was at shopping centre in Chivhu when she was approached by a man who wanted her services.

The two agreed to have a sleep-over at the suspect’s place of residence.

While on their way home, through a footpath that passes through Dhirozvi Truck Stop, the suspect demanded cash and a cellphone from the woman.

The suspect stabbed the woman with a knife several times on the head, twice on the left thigh and on both palms and left her lying on the ground unconsciou­s.

The woman was discovered by a passer-by at around 6am the following day in a pool of blood and a police report was made.
