Byo hosts show for budding comedians

BULAWAYO Theatre Club, in conjunctio­n with LOL Entertainm­ent Zimbabwe, are set to present an opportunit­y for budding comedians to kick-start their careers through a New Material and Open Mic Fringe comedy show.

The show is scheduled for March 10 at the Bulawayo Theatre.

LOL entertainm­ent founder and comedian Dumisani Ndlovu, also known as MaForty, con rmed the developmen­t to Standard Style yesterday.

“The New Material and Open Mic show is a platform for Stand Up Comedy try outs, upcoming and seasoned comedians to put out their new material and getting feedback from the audience.

“We want to give an opportunit­y to those who want to start a career in the standup comedy industry and also bring comedians and audience an intimate a air,” he said.

MaForty said there was a need for more platforms to nurture new talent rising by the day.

“We will host guys that have never performed at all and we want them to mix and mingle with experience­d guys so that they share notes on the day. We hope this comes as a regular occurrence in the arts calendar for Stand Up Comedy.

“We will do a similar initiative in Harare and we hope to bring in many people and a di erent audience we usually get.

“Musicians have listening sessions for their new creations and now we are saying here is a platform for Comedians to try out their new jokes before taking them to bigger stages,” he added.

The event will feature Munashe Mutema, BrandXn M, Mbongeni, Ignatius, Ntobeko Malaba, Tapiwa Harinangon­i, D' Juni, Brian Sibanda and many more.
