Study to be quiet

- BY HUMPHREY MTANDWA

GOD has put authority in our words to create and to destroy and if you speak recklessly, you are going to destroy yourself or someone else. So, the Spirit of God first takes you to a place of quietness. Looking at creation, we even see how God moved in quietness over the waters and in these moments of quietness his word is activated in your heart. You’re not just quiet but meditating on his word. These are moments of meditation on his word through his Spirit. Life sometimes pushes you into a corner, where you become speechless as was the case with Job’s friends in the Bible.

“So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights and none spoke a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great,” Job 2:13 KJV.

When situations are difficult, you become short of words. These are however ripe moments in which you can say a word that can either help you break out of that situation or worsen it. For Job’s friends, the moment of quietness was good but after that moment they spoke without knowledge and that angered God. In their moment of quietness, they went for seven days without food. Imagine

that level of quietness!

The situation you are going through wants you to speak negatively and if you allow the situation to determine your language you will create a future that is far worse than your present bleak situation. Quietness doesn’t only work in negative situations but even in moments of bliss you must learn to have times of quietness. You must not Just Speak

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof,” Proverbs 18: 21 KJV.

The word is very specific here but a lot of us often forget this and we usually speak words that destroy the life God desires for us.

He has called us to a higher life and the only way to achieve this success is through our words.

Have you ever found yourself in a position where you say the picture I am seeing in my life is not in line with who I am? By this time, I should have moved to a higher level in life.

Your words have brought you into your current situation. Your words are a result of your thoughts. The final result is that good job or great marriage you desired. But it can also be the marital problems or financial difficulties or loneliness stalking your life. You should master the art of being quiet.

“But I say unto you, that whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire,” Matthew 5:22 KJV.

Have you ever been in that place where you feel like telling someone about what you’re going through? Or you just can’t keep quiet and yearn to say what you are feeling? It’s not everything you share with people because in sharing it you are giving it life. You may even say you were joking – but jokes about serious, spiritual issues create a negative future for you. Every word carries life. Use your words wisely. It really does not matter, they are just words. The scripture above shows that by just saying to your brother, “fool,” you qualify for hell.

These days men no longer value words and just toss them about carelessly. Watch how you speak and what you say. Every word shall be accounted for – every word you speak! Pray with me Lord, teach me to be quiet as you prepare me to walk as a mature Christian and to speak words that build and create for me a future that I and those around me can enjoy.

God Bless You
