KAY Media Africa, a leading multimedia company in Zimbabwe, has launched Ngano Metaverse, a Web VR app that showcases the work of the Scripts and Bars Incubator programme.

Scripts and Bars is an exciting creative incubation and accelerator programme that has benefited over 150 creatives from Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom.

Kay Media Africa, managing director, Keith Kuhudzai told Standard Style that Scripts and Bars is delivered by Kay Media Africa (Zimbabwe), collaborating with Reprezent (UK) supported by the British Council's Creative Economy Programme.

“Kay Media Africa since November 2021, has successfully brought together UK and Zimbabwean expertise as well as knowledge in two key sectors (literature and music) to support capacity development and partnerships," Kuhudzai said.

“Ngano Metaverse is an interactive platform that allows users to explore a Zimbabwean-themed virtual 3D environment, where they can discover new music, listen to spoken word content, view digital art, and interact with the artists and other users.”

He said users can also choose from different avatars and customise their appearance.

“The app is developed using Unity, a popular game engine, and is hosted on Spatial.io, a cloud-based platform for Web VR.

“The project was led by Eugene Mapondera, a veteran multimedia designer and creative director at Kay Media Africa, who has over 10 years experience in creating immersive digital experiences,” he said.

Kuhudzai, added that Ngano Metaverse is still in the development phase, stating that it’s quite basic for now, but they wanted to share it with the public and get their feedback and suggestions.

“We have a lot of plans to improve the app, such as hosting live virtual events, adding more content and features, and creating a store where users can buy customised avatars and other digital goodies.

“We invite everyone to join us in this journey and help us shape the future of Zimbabwean music, literature and art."

Meanwhile, Mapondera said they were excited to launch Ngano Metaverse, which is a result of their work within Scripts and Bars.

“We wanted to create a unique and engaging platform that celebrates Zimbabwean culture and showcases the talent of our artists. We hope that users will enjoy exploring the app and discovering new content," he said.
