….. unveil new signings

- BY MUNYARADZI MADZOKERE

Harare giants Dynamos announced the 33-member squad, which is expected to do battle for the club as they compete in the Caf Confederations Cup as well as the Premier Soccer League this season.

The list includes the club’s new signings consisting of two foreign nationals, 27-year-old Ghanaian midfielder Fredrick ansah Botchway and veteran Namibia striker Sadney Uri Khob.

Uri Khob, who is 32-yearsold has been capped 19 times by the Brave Warriors of Namibia, scoring four goals and has played in Thailand while he has also played for Young africans in Tanzania as well as amazulu in South africa.

On the other hand Botchway has played for Ghanaian football giants Hearts of Oak and ethiopian side adama City. He boasts of experience in both the Caf Confederations Cup and Champions League.

Other new signings include highly-rated defensive midfielder Temptation Chiwunga who was on the books of South africa second tier league side JDr Stars.

Former FC Platinum defender Nomore Chinyerere also joining the Glamour Boys for the upcoming season after he was released by the Zvishavane based side following an underwhelming season where the defending league champions finished in fourth place, 11 points behind the eventual winners Ngezi Platinum Stars.

another notable signing is goalkeeper Tatenda Makoni, who joins the club from relegated Cranborne Bullets and replaces Taimon Mvula who has since left for Shamwa-based rivals Simba Bhora.

Dynamos coach Genesis Mangombe would be pleased to have retained the bulk of the players, who helped the club to the Chibuku Super Cup title and a third place finish in the league race.

Soccer Star of the Year first runner-up Donald Mudadi remains at the club for the upcoming season while another Soccer Star of Year finalist

Tanaka Shandirwa renewed his contract amid reports that he may decide to play his football elsewhere this season.

Captain Frank Makarati is expected to lead the team in its quest for silverware on the local scene as well as in africa while players like emmanuel Jalai, The Moyo twins Kevin and elvis, Issa Sadiki, Shadeck Nyahwa, emmanuel Paga, ali Illunga and elton Chikona, among others.

The club announced the team for the season, which is expected to start in about a month’s time in a statement yesterday.

“Dynamos Football Club is pleased to announce that it has consummated employment contracts with players recommended by technical team for 2024 season and Confederation of african Football inter club assignments," read the statement.

“Minor changes will be made to the squad as others will be mutually seconded elsewhere to comply with the provisions of Premier Soccer League statutes of registering a maximum of 30 players only.”

Three of the players named in the squad will be shipped on loan before the start of the season.

While the team looks strong on paper there are also a couple of key players from last season, who have since left the club with gifted teenage midfielder Junior Makunike and talismanic play maker Denver Mukamba the most notable names.

Makunike has been lured by Simba Bhora and the club decided against renewing Mukamba’s contract after he played a limited role in the team last season.

Striker Tinashe Makanda, fullbacks Wilmore Chimbetu and Brendon Mpofu have also left the Glamour Boys after struggling to pin regular places in the team.

Dynamos won a major title on the local scene for the first time in nine years when they lifted the Chibuku Super Cup, which earned them the ticket to represent the country on the african safari.

However, the Harare giants will be looking to reclaim the league title, which they last won in 2014.

Their assault for the league title last year may have been hampered by the fact that they had to play a number of home games in Bulawayo after the National Sports Stadium was shut down for rehabilitation.

But indications that rufaro Stadium could be opened for league matches when the league commences, reportedly next month, could be big news for Dynamos who have thrived in the past playing at the Mbare-based home.

according to reports, the Premier Soccer League have set February 24 as the date for the start of the league season with cup winners Dynamos and league champions Ngezi Platinum Stars expected to clash in the Castle Challenge Cup a week earlier.

It is certainly poised to be an exciting season as Simba Bhora have brought in as many as 10 new players as they plot to win the league title this season.

Defending champions FC Platinum also did their business early in the window with a number of signings while league runners-up Manica Diamonds, Ngezi Platinum, Highlanders, Chicken Inn and CaPS United are also busy bolstering their squads.

The Caf Confederations Cup will begin in the second half of the year.
