Mai Banda, Nyasha Mutonhori join forces
UNITED States-based gospel musician Plaxedes Amuli Banda, popularly known as Mai Banda in music circles, has joined forces with Nyasha Mutonhori on a yet-to-be-released single titled I Adore You.
Mai Banda will y into the country to hook up with Mutonhori and put nal touches on the production before the single is released next Sunday.
“The single would be released on March 10 at my home church in Parktown, Waterfalls,” Mai Banda said.
“Nyasha is a great worshiper and I was drawn to her because of her talent in the area of worship.
“Even when you did not feel like worshipping, when you listen to the young lady, you can’t help, but tap into praises and worship.
“You can feel the anointing upon her life.”
“Nyasha attended a programme I did at Apostle Java’s church almost two years ago and I called her on stage and she sang so beautifully.”
Mai Banda said the song was all about worship with emphasis on praising the Almighty.
“The song’s title is I Adore You and I am acknowledging His Majesty, all glory and honour belongs to him God, the maker of heaven and earth,” she said.
“Sunday March 10 is all about praises and worship and no preaching.
“In heaven, there is only praises and worship because God inhabits the praises of his people.”
Married to Douglas Banda, who manages the Mai Banda brand, the US-based musician said she was eager to do more collaborations with local artistes regardless of their choice of music.
Late last year Mai Banda did a project titled Moyo Wangu with Zimdancehall sensation Jah Master.
“I am going to work with a lot of local talent including choirs from di erent denominations,” she said.
“I have always wanted to diversify my music and I am actually enjoying the process.”
A mother of three children aged 23, 20 and 15; Mai Banda in an interview with Standard Style last year also hinted at doing collaborations with artistes such as Tocky Vibes, Ex-Q, Killer T and many others.
She said in the past she was limited to her passion – music – due to family commitments.
“In the past I have done three albums, but I could not commercialise them due to the ages of my kids,” Mai Banda said.
“I live in the US and I wanted more attention to my kids than my music.
“I asked God to renew my youth whenever my kids were grown so I can focus on my music career.
“Surely God honoured my request and I am a tness freak which makes it even better.
“My energy on stage is of a 25-yearold yet I am nearly 50.”
She hopes to release her fourth album next year on conditions that she would have established Mai Banda Music commercially.
“I am very well-known in the church, but on the commercial arena, I am a work in progress, still on baby steps,” she said.
“The brand is not very strong yet, but I believe that it will be strong in the near future.”
