- BY STYLE REPORTER

ONE of Alpha Media Holdings journalists, Rejoice Phiri, has been nominated for the African Female Print Journalist gong for Ladies in Media Awards which will be held in Accra, Ghana this year.

The 25-year-old reporter is among other female journalists across Africa who have been recognised for these awards.

Phiri is among nine other Zimbabwean ladies in media to be nominated in these awards, leaving Zimbabwe as the country with most nominations.

The president of Ladies in Media Awards, Margaret Barden commended all the Zimbabwean female personnel who have been recognised for these prestigious awards.

“Zimbabwean females in the media industry have evidently worked hard for their spots on the nominations,” she said.

“We received quite a large number of submissions but after shortlisting we noticed that

Zimbabwe had more spots, and we believe that they all deserve it,” she said. Besides Phiri, other Zimbabwean female media personnel nominated for these awards are popular radio presenter Kudzai “KVG” Gwara, socialite Felistas “Mai Titi” Murata, Yvonne Mangunda, Primrose Kurima and Veronica Gwaze, among others.

The awards which will be held in Accra, Ghana are running under the theme ‘Promoting Literacy Among our Future Leaders’. Barden told Standard Style that this year’s awards will be accompanied by a development project to promote literacy in three countries across the continent.

“We will be donating storybooks to learners in rural areas,” she said.

“Last year we did the same project but only covered Ghana, but this year we are expanding to two other countries.”
