Kamungeremu’s star continues to shine

-

MIKE Kamungeremu is the current president of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC). He was first elected president in June 2022 and because of his sterling work in representing private sector interests in Zimbabwe, Mike was re-elected president in 2023 and is currently serving his final term.

Since becoming president, Kamungeremu has signed several MOUs with sister chambers of commerce from across the globe and has been invited to speak at various conferences on behalf of the ZNCC.

Under his leadership, the ZNCC has provided key input to policy making through submissions to national budget, monetary policy and appearing before parliamentary portfolio committees.

The chamber has also annually carried out the ZNCC Annual State of Industry and Commerce Survey in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and UNDP.

This survey has become a very important source of industry information in Zimbabwe which is now assisting policy makers in making data driven decisions.

Under Kamungeremu’s leadership, ZNCC has been seen living up to their true billing as the ‘voice of business’ as it lobbied the authorities for the improvement of the business operating environment in Zimbabwe with a view to foster economic growth and development.

Kamungeremu is also the managing director of Tendo Electronics, a company that specialises in ICT and backup power solutions in Zimbabwe and Zambia.

He joined Tendo as head of finance in June 2008 and then became managing director in February 2014. Under Kamungeremu’s leadership, the company has grown to become a market leader in designing and building data centres, supplying, installing and maintaining standby generators, solar backup solutions, UPS systems, CCTV and access control, fire suppression systems, air-conditioning systems and other related infrastructure solutions.

In 2023, the company was given The Schneider Electric Data Centre Company of the Year award in Southern Africa after it deployed a containerised, prefabricated data centre for a bank in Kabwe, Zambia. The Data Centre is the first of its kind in Sub- Saharan Africa.

Kamungeremu is a qualified chartered management accountant (CIMA) and a chartered global management accountant (CGMA) with a track record in private sector financial management, strategic management, corporate governance, taxation, turnaround strategies and administration.

He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy Honours Degree from the University of Zimbabwe, a diploma in financial management (ACCA-UK), Full CIMA, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (UZ) and a Bachelor of Laws Degree from the University of South Africa.

Commenting on his recent award, Kamungeremu said, “The accolade is affirmation of work that is being done by ZNCC in furthering the interests of the private sector in Zimbabwe and it is refreshing to note that outsiders are taking stock.”

"The award is not a personal accolade as it was due to the effort of the whole ZNCC team, led by the CEO Mr. Chris Mugaga, with the support of the board and I wish to congratulate them on this achievement. The recognition is humbling and encourages us to keep working hard in furthering the interests of the private sector, for the benefit of the country of Zimbabwe as a whole.”

He also currently sits on the boards of ZimTrade, which is Zimbabwe’s trade promotion and development organisation and Zimsec, which is Zimbabwe’s primary and secondary schools examinations administration organisation.

He is married to Rachael and blessed with three boys, Tanaka, Tawana and Takura.
